چکیده

Energy efficient broadcast is indispensable for many applications in wireless ad hoc networks. It has been proved that network coding has great potential to improve performance in terms of energy consumption in wireless ad hoc networks. However, the power of network coding depends on the availability of coding opportunities, which in turns depends on how routing paths are established. It is thus beneficial to establish paths in such a way that more coding opportunities are created. By combining network coding and connected dominating set (CDS), we explore energy minimal broadcast protocols in wireless ad hoc networks. The rationale behind this combination is that CDS provides better chances for data flows to intersect, which means more coding opportunities. We design a scheme, named NCDS, that uses network coding over connected dominating set, to reduce energy consumption. Analysis and experimental results show that NCDS outperforms broadcast algorithms that use CDS or network

A Connected Dominating Set Based on Connectivity and Energy in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

A connected dominating set (CDS) has been proposed as a virtual backbone for routing in wireless ad hoc networks. Ad hoc networks offer new routing paradigms. Therefore, the routing operation needs a broadcast algorithm. Broadcasting in an ad hoc network is still an open issue. The main focus here will be on optimizing the energy and the bandwidth utilization for packet diffusion. In this paper...

LEBRP - A Lightweight and Energy Balancing Routing Protocol for Energy-Constrained Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

A wireless ad hoc network typically refers to any set of wireless networks where all devices have equal status on a network and are free to associate with any other wireless ad hoc network devices in their range. As the nature of these networks, they commonly do not have external power supplies, and each node has a limited internal power source. In this paper, we put forward a new routing proto...

Improving Route Discovery Using Stable Connected Dominating Set in MANETs

A Connected Dominating Set (CDS) based virtual backbone plays an important role in wireless ad hoc networks for efficient routing and broadcasting. Each node in the network can select some of its 1-hop neighbors as Multi Point Relay (MPR) to cover all its 2-hop neighbors. A MPR based CDS is a promising approach for broadcasting. A node in the CDS consumes more energy and the energy depletes qui...
